Founder & Director
Ian Greig MBA
MBA, BSc (Hons), GDL — Director @ New Legal · Editor-in-Chief @ Newfound · London, UK
“I want every director, risk-taker and innovator to have the legal advice and cover that keeps them out of harm’s way.”
What Ian does
Structuring, negotiating and de-risking the moments that matter.
Ian works with directors of IP-led businesses on the decisions where money, ownership and control are on the line. Done badly, they drain time, damage reputations and cost far more than the fee. Done properly, they unlock growth, protect earnings and hand back control.
- 01Partnerships & equity
- Bringing in partners, investors and shareholders — structured so ownership, control and reward are clear from day one.
- 02Deals & M&A
- Acquisitions, exits, joint ventures and investments negotiated and documented to hold up in the real world.
- 03IP & commercial
- Ownership of the ideas, methods, technology and brands a business actually runs on, plus the contracts around them.
- 04Separations & disputes
- Business partnership separations with complex IP and financial elements, and high-risk situations that have already started to go wrong.
When Ian gets the call
Usually when the stakes are high and the margin for error is low.
- 01A deal needs to be done — properly.
- 02Something feels risky or unclear.
- 03Money, ownership or control is on the line.
- 04Things have already started to go sideways.
No over-engineering. No surprise bills. Clear advice, robust structures and deals that work in the real world.
Background
Sixteen years of building, advising and dealmaking.
Ian founded New Legal in 2022 and the wider New group around it: a legal and business consultancy powering directors, experts and SMEs on shares, IP and contracts.
Since then the team has supported directors, shareholders and operators across the UK and internationally on partnership and equity deals, ownership structures, IP and commercial frameworks, and resolving disputes.
New’s publication arm, built to surface the people and ideas shaping what’s next. See Newfound.
Ian has founded or co-founded eight businesses and spent 16+ years in director, consultant and advisory roles across the UK and internationally — including Brick & Sterling, LIONLEASE, Countrywide Design Group and his own consultancy.
That work covered significant London and international real estate and business transactions, negotiations and disputes — the commercial side of the advice he now gives.
Trainee solicitor at Tiger Law UK, following the Graduate Diploma in Law at BPP Law School and corporate, commercial and disputes programmes with Linklaters, Pinsent Masons, King & Wood Mallesons and Latham & Watkins.
- MBA, Business Administration, Management and Operations — Durham University
