We recently closed the first round of applications. The early picture: ambitious businesses with meaningful opportunities — and barriers we can help them overcome.

8 + 3
Eight initial offers, with three larger opportunities emerging.
~£50K
Combined funded and subsidised documents and advice.
This is an early snapshot, not a live total. The support value includes offers already made and support we expect to offer soon — not completed delivery or confirmed savings.
If taken up and delivered, it could preserve around £50K that these businesses can direct towards growth instead of professional-support costs.
One anonymised example
A business raised £150K to develop an innovative model in a relatively high-risk sector. It was quoted £10K–£15K for the legal terms needed to operate.
One legal requirement could absorb up to 10% of its funding before the business really got going.
New Legal offered the work through the Initiative for around a third to half of the quoted price.
Preserve cash for growth while putting the right legal foundations in place.
The business has an opportunity to reduce its costs. Our team gets interesting, meaningful work. New Legal can build a commercially sustainable, long-term relationship.
This describes an offer, not a completed project or a realised saving. The exact scope, contribution and terms are agreed with the business before work begins.
What we’re learning
The strongest theme is ambition meeting complexity — where the cost and timing of specialist support can hold back launch, growth or impact.
We’re seeing unusual business models, AI and technology ventures, new platforms, and businesses tackling social or environmental problems.
Novel models, emerging markets and higher-risk activities often need bespoke legal work, not just standard templates.
Some businesses are pre-revenue. Others are established but need to preserve cash for growth. Professional support can be necessary at exactly the moment funds are most stretched.
Funded and subsidised support can reduce that pressure — helping businesses protect what they are building without losing sight of the opportunity.
Some businesses can use funded documents on their own, particularly for simpler needs or where they are comfortable working with AI. Many need advice, adaptation or professional sign-off because of the risks involved.
That often means a combination of funded resources and subsidised advice, with a tailored paid element. The scope and any contribution are agreed before work starts.
New provides transformation consulting; New Legal provides legal and IP expertise. They can support businesses independently or together, depending on the challenge.
Tell us what you’re building and what’s getting in the way. We’ll explore whether New, New Legal or a combination can help.
Funding is discretionary, subject to eligibility and availability. Not all advice or professional time is free. Any contribution is agreed before work begins. Support is not an unrestricted cash grant.
