What we help unlock
01
A launch, deal or new model is within reach. Get the specialist commercial or legal support that helps you move forward.
02
Turn innovation, AI or valuable IP into a viable business model — with a strategy and structure to match.
03
Get ownership, contracts and partnerships in shape so your business can pursue its next chapter.
We’re interested in traction, credible potential and a meaningful problem or opportunity. Particular areas of interest include technology and AI, innovative and IP-led businesses, knowledge-intensive and professional services, new products and platforms, and social or environmental impact. Ambitious and commercially minded — not a programme for every small business.
Our distinctive strength
Transformation consulting
Strategy, transformation and commercial problem-solving. We help you improve business models, commercialise innovation and navigate change — with particular expertise in technology, AI, data and IP.
Legal and IP consulting
Practical contracts, IP and commercial structures. We help you establish the foundations to launch, operate, protect your interests, enter partnerships and grow.
Some challenges need both: launching a platform, commercialising IP, adopting AI or structuring a partnership. We help you work out what to do — then structure, protect and execute it. Each discipline is also available independently.
Where there’s a strong fit, we can work more closely with founders and leadership teams: as a strategic sounding board, fractional leader, board-level adviser or NED where appropriate, or through a virtual co-founder-style relationship. Experience, perspective and practical involvement — not an automatic part of every package.
How the Initiative helps
We fund and subsidise specialist support so promising businesses can overcome barriers and pursue opportunities without diverting more resources than necessary.
01
What are you building? What’s holding you back? Where do you want to go next?
02
We look at your priorities and the expertise that could make the biggest difference.
03
Where there’s a fit, we propose a tailored package, explain the available funding and agree any contribution upfront.
Our ambition: £1 million of support for the UK business community. An ambition to deploy expertise — not a cash-grant fund.
Support may be fully funded, partly subsidised or delivered through a tailored commercial arrangement. Funding is discretionary, subject to eligibility and availability. Not all advice or professional time is free. Bespoke work may require a contribution, agreed before work begins.
Support is delivered through New and New Legal services, products and resources, not unrestricted cash grants. Packages are assessed individually. There is no guaranteed award and no obligation to purchase further services. Any chargeable diagnostic or additional work is agreed in advance.
Proof, not promises
Illustrative Initiative offer
An innovative business raised £150K but faced £10K–£15K in legal costs to establish the terms it needed to operate. New Legal offered the work at approximately a third to half of the quoted amount, aiming to preserve funding for development.
An offer, not a confirmed completed project or realised saving.
